PROFILE OF PRINCE AFOTEY LARYEA - T.GAY THE HUMBLE LION Parented in the early '60s by Mr. Isaac Annum Laryea and Ms. Veronica Ahele in Accra, known in musical circles as "T.GAY- THE HUMBLE LION" and grew up in the ghettoes. Despite having a princely looking innocent face and pearcing philosophical eyes, the name HUMBLE LION clothing the man Prince Laryea smacks of a controversial character.He says he is not an African nor an American but an Earthian. He says he not a Christian nor a Moslem, a Hindu or an idol worshipper but just a lover. Not a terrorist nor a fighter but a musical warrior. Observers see his true nature epitomised in his lyrics.He simply goes wild and mad at social injustice, and the messages he sends go straight to the point irrespective of the impact on the addressees.He himself admits he loves to hate evil, and hates to love evil doers. To him when the lion and the sheep dine, there is serious war against crime. A crab that never fathers a bird , the humble lion is a true replica of his father who in the 60s was an entertainer, a flag bearer of a local JAMA group at Teshie, now based in the U.S. New Jersey, and a one time national rock and rolls dance champion. The Humble lion's career came to the lime light at a very tender age, when he is always heard singing against anyone whom he thinks had offended him, even at the age of 4, his older cousins will ask him to sing to the amazement of their visitors during his primary and elementary school days for some coins. Yehowah has been my sole inspirer, motivator and energy besides Fela, Bob Marley he laments. His affiliation with his Alma mater, SUHUM SECONDARY TECHNICAL SCHOOL continued after graduation when he became the school's photographer and earned the nickname PHOTO T.GAY. The Humble Lion was employed as a disk jockey during the hey days of 99.7 KISS FM sounds and DANOCOM SOUNDS where he amazingly held his teeming fans spellbound with his dexterity in singing and dancing, fusing the Ga "KPALOGO" with the AKAN "ADOWA" and the EWE "AGBADZA" in grand style.When kiss fm sounds filed for bankruptcy, the Humble Lion flirted with the BLACK EMPIRE BAND ( a reggae biased band) as the lead vocalist and sole toaster. With this band, he courted the attention and played alongside musical heavyweights like Consular Hayes, Nana Tuffuor- 9924, Amakye Dede, K.K.Kabobo, the late senior Eddie Donkor, Ras Kimono of Nigeria, Jah Shaka and Norman Grant of Jamaica. The Humble Lion was among the privileged few who were selected to perform at the PAN AFRICAN FAIR FOR ARTS AND MUSIC(PAFAM) at the trade fair site where Jermaine Jackson was the guest artiste. Humble Lion released his first masterpiece in 1999, SUPERNATURAL JAMA, which though showed his versatility in the music industry had, like most first timers, promotional problems. But even with that the Humble Lion who has never ever been discouraged in life roared, " You ain't seen nothing yet". From the encouragement of his teeming fans through numerous radio and T.V programmes, the Humble Lion re-organised himself to bring his music, which he calls BIGLIFE instead of high life, to the doorstep of music lovers.His second release BAAJO was a bomb.... Then he reorganised himself again and released the MANTEKAI album which won the hearts of many Ghanaians across America. Based on his originality and authenticity HUMBLE LION performs at miss universe pageants alongside AMANDZEBA NAT BREW, AKOSUA ADYAPONG, EKOW LARBI SAVAGE and a host of them. The Ga traditional council commissioned him to score the dirge for the late GREAT NII AMUGI II. The DIRGE album sold massively in MENNESOTTA in the United States of America. The graphic showbiz has it that HUMBLE LION has a studio (NYCENOYCE) that is currently giving sponsorship to up and coming musician who are though talented but are underprivileged-MANY TALENTS ARE GOING WASTE TODAY BECUASE THERE IS NO ONE OUT THERE WITH A VERY GOOD FORESIGHT TO TAP THESE TALENTS....THIS MAKES ME SHED TEARS. Currently, I am working on my next album which is a pack of 4 cds-10 songs each, so 40 songs in all, and this album is coming in various styles to prove my versatily and originality. REGGAE, KOOLS, GOSPLE and my style which is BIGLIFE.But before then, this is my very newest album titled 24/7 AFRIKA.
